Katy Rundle: From MacMillan Nurse to Professional Textile Artist

Katy is a contemporary textile artist who is best known for her vibrant embroidered textile collages. Her art celebrates life, light and the natural world using a collage of vibrant patterned fabrics and stitch. As a child she loved art but followed her mother into nursing and became a MacMillan nurse specialising in palliative care, but in 2018 she gave up nursing in order to concentrate on her textile work.

Sandi Jones: Four Generations of Needlework

Former BBC Radio Solent and World Service broadcaster, Sandi Jones talks to us about her love for needlework was inspired by the needlewomen in her family.  Sandi is a prolific stitcher who makes numerous quilts for charities such as Linus, and she is also an outstanding bag maker.  She is the chairman of the Solent Stitchers group who meet in Titchfield.

Jenny Paglia:  Quilted Yarns

Jenny, who lives in Southampton, will bring a small number of quilts that show the resilience and ingenuity of the women who made them during the events that shaped their lives.


"Jennifer Paglia is a self-taught quilter who grew up in the UK but lived overseas for many years. She is passionately interested as to why and how certain quilts were made and in the courage and resilience of the women who made them."

Joy Harber (Salvage): Passionate about Pineapples

Joy first came to MVQ in 2021 and was so good that we invited her back to talk at our 2022 exhibition, where whe delivered a well attended workshop.  She talked to us about her "obsession with log cabin" and is an enthusiastic and gifted quiltmaker, and an inspiring speaker. This time she will be talking about being "Passionate about Pineapples", which is followed on Sunday 12th July.

At this workshop you will learn to draft a pattern and make a pineapple block.

Jan Hassard: And sew on .....


Jan is a quilter and embroiderer with over 40 year's experience. She is an active member of both her local and the national UK Quilters' Guilds. 


She has studied and taught extensively in the UK and abroad and attended the Houston Quilt Festival, the New Zealand Symposium and many other shows and events. Her work has been exhibited widely and won many prizes, most notably the Quilters' Guild Award for colour twice. 


Jan is also an invited judge for the Quilters' Guild of the British Isles.

Sara Sullivan:  A History of Colour through Sylko

Sara has had a love of old textiles and haberdashery ever since she rummaged through her grandmothers sewing box as a child.  This developed into making scrap quilts and then a small business buying and selling old haberdashery. Sylco reels  have become a pleasant addiction and she now gives talks to quilt and textile groups and is a self confessed "anorak" on Sylco threads.
